Sensitive Area Rock Breaking

JSB is the proud consumers of an innovative non-explosive rock breaking technology called NoneX™. The NoneX™ technology is based on a non-detonating chemical compound enclosed in a cartridge, which reacts very quickly when ignited to produce high volumes of harmless gas, mainly consisting of nitrogen, carbon dioxide and steam.

When the cartridge is sealed in a drill hole, the gas generated by the ignition of the propellant enters into the micro-fractures created from the percussive drilling process and into the natural fractures and planes of weakness of the rock to produce a shearing of the rock or concrete often called splitting.

NoneX™ uses tensile force to break rock which is in average 20 times weaker in tensile strength than in compression strength. The tensile force is applied by a rapid release of large volumes of gas generated by a pyrotechnic composition in the NoneX™ cartridge. The NoneX™ cartridge is embedded in the rock by means of a drilling and tamping procedure and electrically ignited using an approved shot exploder. NoneX™ is specifically designed for breaking rock/concrete with minimum sound, vibration and fly rock.

Advantages of NoneX™

  • Greatly reduced danger area (30 meters)
  • Low vibrations with minimal noise and overpressure
  • Minimum disruption of the client's operation (30 meter evacuation radius for personnel)
  • Minimum restrictions for use near power lines, pipe lines, etc
  • No high explosive hazards (transport, handling and initiation)
